Unicorn on a cold night

Tonight, I had the telescope (my 10" F5 Dob) outside the back door. I've got a little window of sky and tonight I could see some of the star clusters in the constellation Monoceros (The Unicorn), which is to the east of Orion in the sky.

The Christmas Tree Cluster was quite a sight - through the eyepiece it is a large, bright scattering of stars! Several other clusters were also visible although the light pollution made things a little more difficult.

Website update

I finally got round to updating my various websites. I noticed that freeola (who host some of them) have taken a domain name away from me without warning (theman@themoon). I've therefore set up a new domain (www.astronomy.themoon.co.uk).

Finished writing my first e-book "Northumberland Astronomer's Handbook for 2007" - this is also available on my website.

Currently reading Richard Dawkins' book "The Ancestor's Tale" and getting ready for a final hectic week on the PGCE before the Christmas break.

First blog!

This is my first entry in my observing blog. Basically I just wanted to find a quick easy way to post my astronomy observations online without the hassle of updating my website the usual way! My website is currently found at http://www.theman.themoon.co.uk/ and I'm hoping to seamlessly link this blog into it at some point.
